Germany-born, Australia-based Katrin Koenning is a visual artist whose award-winning photography pursues disarming intimacy and compelling narrative. Here, the captivating colours of nature offer a backdrop to the bold pink of the Thomas Pink shirt.
What was the inspiration behind your portrait?
I wanted to have a beautiful time with my friend Milad, and for our picture to be tender and playful. We went down the road to the park, and he had this beautiful idea with the flowers.
What sort of photography do you specialise in?
My heart is in world-centred photography.
Who or what inspires you creatively?
My loves, my friends, the animals in my life and the animals I meet, people I meet, conversations I have, poetry other people write, paintings, things I read, a wild sea, a morning walk, a tree down the road.
Generally speaking, what makes a good picture?
Oh, I don’t know if I have an answer for this because there isn’t a formula. I like it when I am moved, when something touches me.
What’s the most memorable picture you’ve taken?
Sometimes the pictures I didn’t make burn behind my retina the most.
Finally, what do you look for in a shirt?
Simplicity, boldness, elegant play.
